Europe Strengthens Earth Observation: ESA and EDA Launch Joint Study
The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Defence Agency (EDA) have initiated a joint study aimed at bolstering Europe’s Earth observation capabilities. This collaboration seeks to identify strategic and technological gaps and develop a long-term roadmap to support security and defence initiatives.
Formalized through an Implementing Arrangement signed between ESA and EDA, the study will assess the current state of Earth observation technologies and chart a course for future needs. This is expected to encompass improvements in satellite data acquisition, analysis, and utilization.
By leveraging ESA’s expertise in space and EDA’s knowledge in defence, Europe is poised to enhance its autonomy in Earth observation and strengthen its capacity to address security challenges. This endeavor signifies a collective effort to advance European scientific and technological prowess.
